Save the Date - 2015 Fête de la Musique

The Alliance Francaise of Johannesburg, the French Institute of South Africa and the Bassline present the 4th edition of Fête de La Musique, Saturday 27 June 2015, from 10 am to 7 pm, with the support of Newtown Junction, Total South Africa and Société Générale Securities Services.

The Melville Fête de La Musique in 2014 was celebrated by more than 10,000 people. Based on last year’s success, the event, promises to be even bigger and better in 2015.

After three years of working with the Melville community to establish the Fête de la Musique, the event moves to another part of Johannesburg, to allow this incredible event to grow in a space that will be more able to accommodate larger crowds.

In 2015 the Fête de la Musique will take place in Newtown, a historic area which is currently experiencing an impressive revitalisation, on its way to reclaiming its title of Jozi’s number one cultural hub. For this 4th edition, the entire Newtown neighbourhood will be brought to life with multiple live performances spread throughout all areas. It will be turned into a pedestrian friendly zone for visitors, from 10 am to 7 pm, to truly enjoy the programme of live music and other artistic performances in restaurants, bars and on various stages. From 7 pm to 2 am, Newtown venues will run their own programming.

Newtown is now blessed with hugely increased safe and secure parking facilities at Newtown Junction shopping centre. The precinct’s City Improvement District has been in place since September 2014 and is having a hugely positive impact on Newtown’s security and cleanliness.

The Fête de La Musique welcomes everyone, especially families, to enjoy the diversity and excitement of Newtown. It promises to be a fun and exciting showcase of diverse local music, theatre, dance, poetry, food and much more, celebrated in a safe and inclusive atmosphere that brings communities together in what is a popular and free event.
